This procedure is often described as similar to getting a tattoo. Most scars are relatively painless since the nerve endings have been destroyed in the scar tissue. This treatment may cause some discomfort, but the level of pain may vary depending on an individual's pain tolerance, as well as size and location of the scar.
Scar camouflage is a cosmetic procedure that uses a specialized tattoo technique to deposit pigments over scars to help blend in with surrounding skin.
Booking a consultation will help us estimate the number of treatments needed for each scar. This estimate depends on several factors, including the size, location and severity of the scar. Stretch marks can take as little as 2-3 treatments, where as surgical scars will need a few more treatments.
Scar camouflage is considered a permanent procedure. Results can last anywhere between two to five years before fading. Fading is normal, and can be caused by sun exposure and natural exfoliating skin. It is recommended to come back for touch up treatments when necessary.
After the procedure a patient may experience soreness, redness and minor swelling in the tattooed area. It is important to follow after care instructions to promote healing and achieve the best results.
The effectiveness of scar camouflage and micro-pigmentation depends on the severity of the scar and how the skin reacts to holding pigments. Like any medical procedure the result may differ from each patient. This treatment can help make your scars less noticeable and more aesthetically pleasing.
When sun tanning our skin darkens one to two shades. The treated area will still be less noticeable than the original untreated scar. For the best camouflaged results we recommend treatments on natural skin without a tan, unless patient tans all year around.
